Some of the issues with health status are influenced by negative interactions with health care providers. One of the problems facing minorities is language problems[:] the low ability

to understand and

follow directions may cause lower care quality. Another issue is []low literacy[,]which can make it difficult to understand and read medical prescriptions and other instructions.

[This little bit of information really should form a part of the previous paragraph.]

According to USA Today (2008) Harvard University and the Robert Wood Johnson foundation discovered that whites regularly rated their experience higher than minority patients.

Dr. Anne Beal, [assistant] vice president at the Commonwealth Fund said that health care practitioners can improve patients perceptions by resolving language barriers, and translation services. Oliver Goldsmith [Who is Oliver Goldsmith? Introduce notable

notes that doctors and nurses and caregivers need to know and understand the

background knowledge value and expressive medical need of their patients. [Im having a little
trouble trying to understand what youre saying with this sentence. I think youre shooting for something like this: Oliver Goldsmith notes that doctors, nurses, and caregivers need to understand a patients background in order to effectively express medical care for their patients.]

In order to counteract the negative experiences of many minorities, healthcare professionals should learn cultural competence. This would include knowing how to treat patients with respect; [Im no sure if this was accidental, but its unnecessary. Please

and understanding their different cultural needs to make the patients feel heard.

In the healthcare field touching is essential[ ] [Here an em dash would be the best punctuation mark to use.] some duties of the medical field include touching the client which may be disrespectful to some cultures. Touching is not allowed in some cultures. Before touching a client let them know when, where and how they going to be touched during the examination. medicine and healers when trying to provide care to different cultures. The goal of every healthcare provider should be providing the best service to all their patients regardless [of] their race, cultural background or language. All healthcare providers should be aware of cultural sensitivity [and] recognize the differences between cultures.

As a nurse I would not judge people based on [their race or sexual preferences],

so that they would feel comfortable and respected. I think that

being bilingual would help me with my patients in the healthcare field because many hospitals are hiring bilingual nurses. I personally understand how it feels not getting the help that you need because of the language. [Consider replacing with language barriers.] For example, every time my mother goes to the hospital she has to go with my sister or me to help her communicate with the doctors; the hospital does not have an interpreter to help her. That is an obstacle because sometimes she [would] rather not go to the hospital because there is no one available to help her. Our job as healthcare providers is not to judge our patients based on their culture or to ridicule them, our job is to provide []Therapeutic professional communication to our patients and that is cultural competency. [VERY NICE CONCLUSION! :D]
