Determining the effect of temperature on the rate of transpiration.

Problem statement : What is the effect of temperature on the rate of transpiration ? Aim : To investigate the effect of temperature on the rte of transpiration. Variables :Manipulated : Different temperature. Responding : The rate of transpiration Constant : Same type of plant used Hyphotesis : When the temperature increase, the rate of transpiration also increase. Apparatus : A potometer , basin , retort stand , capillary tube , stopwatch , a blade , beaker. Material : A leafy shoot with soft stem , vaseline , anhdrous calcium chloride dry cloth. Technique used : measure and record the time taken by the air bubbles to move a distance of 2 cm by using stopwatch. Safety Precautions : Be careful when use blade to cut off the shoot of plant and be sure that shoot is cut under the water to avoid air from entering xylem. Procedure :1) Cut a leafy shoot under the water to prevent air from entering the xylem. 2) Take a capillary tube and immersed in water. 3) After that , take a rubber tube and connect the capillary tube with the plant.

4) Apply petroleum jelly around the region of the soft stem that goes through the rubber tube to................... 5) Set up the leafy shoot in the potometer as shown in blackboard. 6) To investigate the effect of temperature. First, the potometer is placed under the sun.then record the time taken by the air bubbles to move a distance of 2 cm by using stopwatch. 7) Repeat the step 1 until 6 using same type of plant and placed is shady place.record the readings.
