TNN, Feb 9, 2011, 10.57pm IST LUDHIANA: On the basis of information provided by three vehicle-lifters during their 14-day police remand, 19 cars and jeeps worth about Rs 90 lakh, which were stolen from Ludhiana, Amritsar and Mohali, have been recovered. Deputy commissioner of police Yurinder Singh Hayer in a press conference organised on Wednesday said, ''The city police has busted a nine-member vehicle-lifters' gang. Three of its members -- Jagseer Singh, alias Sheera, of Bagha Purana in Moga; Harkirat Singh, alias Lovely, of Kotkapura and Chanchal of Shateerwala in Ferozepur -- were arrested two weeks ago and the remaining six will be nabbed soon.'' ''Sheera is their leader. About 40 cases of theft and other crimes are registered against him at various police stations in the state. To steal vehicles, the accused broke open their locks with drill machines. After preparing their fake documents, they used to sell these,'' he added.

Six Tata Indigo cars, four Bolero jeeps, two Zen diesel cars, two Indica cars, a Tata Safari, a Maruti 800, an Alto and a Mahindra pick up have been recovered. One vehicle has been seized from Jodhpur. Sources said a few members of the gang who prepared fake documents have been arrested by Mohali police.
