I think it is safeto saythat this test is not indicative ofthe lrue lracturestrengthofthe average shaletlrat we are abouL drill - which l expectis rnuchlower than this FIT to Possibleexplanationsfor LOTIFIT testswhich are much higher than expected: suggests. - tectonic increasing stress horizontal stress - high formation tensile strength (more likely to seethis when little sectionis exposed beneaththe shoe - error in pore pressureand/or overburdenmodel - erroneoustest We can't get pore pressurehigh enoughto eralain the test, and I think given high pore pressureand low effectile stress,it is unlikely that the overburdenerror would be in the right direction (I'd expectthe everagedensity to be lower than modelled, not higher). It is hard to make a casefor any substantialcompressional tectonic forces acting on the wellbore - and evenif we did seethrust faults, I wouldn't erpect the LOT to be any higher than overburden.I think thc most likcly cxplanation is that wc havc tcstcda shalc that hasvcry high tcnsilc strcngth, or rc harrctcstcd cemenUcasing. At any rate, we are probably all on the samepagehere:we should managedrilling this last hole sectionwith ttre expectationthat the shaleswill fail at about the predictedvalues - lesstlran overburden- which is about 15.5PPG at thc shoc.
