Throughout last week, HRM was negotiating a new offer with ATU in good faith. ATU was involved every step of the way. See for yourself.
Monday, February 20:
HRM contacts ATU to meet.

Tuesday, February 21:

ATU tells HRM the conciliator will get the two sides together on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, February 22:


Metro Transit Director Eddie Robar and ATU President Ken Wilson meet with conciliators and reach a tentative deal with a list of agreed-to items including rostering and wages. HRM and ATU shake on the tentative agreement. HRM creates Memorandum of Understanding on rostering. ATU requests Regional Council present tentative agreement to membership as an offer

Thursday, February 23:


ATU and HRM finalize wording on rostering Memorandum of Understanding. Council ratifies final offer for presentation to the union. Final package mailed to ATU. - A five-year collective agreement that includes rostering and wage restructuring (offsets), with provisions that will let the union participate in how rostering would be established - A first-year $1,500 lump sum payment to all ATU employees - Wage increases of 2.25% in each of the subsequent four years

Friday, February 24:


ATU executive presents final offer to members -- 78% of ATU members reject the offer.

ATU Local 508 is holding your transit system hostage to get what they want - binding arbitration, no rostering and unchecked overtime costs. Dont let them do it. Its now up to the union to determine when we are able to return transit service to the citizens of HRM. If you agree, call the ATU office at 455-2040 to let them know how you feel.
