Department of Polymer Science and Technology, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore 570 006 Karnataka Polymer Science is one of the fastest growing branches in the field of science and technology. Polymers are replacing every possible element on this earth because of its low cost, light weight, availability and high efficiency. One of those fields where the use of polymers is increasing extensively is in the pharmaceutical applications. Polymers are becoming increasingly important in the field of drug delivery. The pharmaceutical applications of polymers range from their use as binders in tablets to viscosity and flow controlling agents in liquids, suspensions and emulsions. Polymers can be used as film coatings to disguise the unpleasant taste of a drug, to enhance drug stability and to modify drug release characteristics. How the different properties of polymers like temperature sensitivity, Phase sensitivity, pH sensitivity and Photosensitivity help in the drug delivery applications? How these properties have been made use in this field? What are the advantages, disadvantages, possibilities, and limitations of polymers being used in this field? In this presentation an attempt has been made to answer all these questions along with some case studies under the guidance of our highly qualified staff. -------
