State Route 710 Environmental Study

Online Media Briefing #1 - February 24, 2012

Alternatives Analyses & Public Participation

Background
> Unresolved SR-710 option contributes to growing congestion on nearby freeways and arterials > 2/3rds of LA County voters approve using Measure R $s to address the problem > Robust Project Scoping completed > Metro Board awards environmental and outreach contracts > Public participation continues

Alternatives Analyses (AA)

WHY & HOW? > Fulfill next step leading to environmental process > Evaluate a full range of reasonable multi-modal transportation alternatives to address the problem > Collect data, and conduct engineering and other environmental and technical assessments > Consider input from Project Scoping as well as public input during the AA phase

Post Scoping Initial Study Area

What we heard during Scoping

> Keep all modal options on the table including:
Traffic Systems Management/Traffic Demand Management low-build; surface, subsurface and elevated alignments; transit (bus and rail) options; arterial improvements; freight management systems; supporting advanced technologies; and the No-Build

> Define project need and study area

> Continue public participation
5

More on what we heard

> Consider all related traffic, engineering, social, aesthetic, economic, cultural, natural, archaeological, health, air quality, noise and environmental justice issues > Consider local and regional planning impacts > Conduct cost/benefit analyses
