Unit :1 AO6

Introduction
In this PowerPoint I will be investigating vertical and horizontal progression in a public service that I have chosen. This is the special unit I have chosen for the police. Dog handler

Vertical progression Vertical progression in public services is when the person ranks up. For example Dog Handler to Chief of dog handling.

Horizontal progression Horizontal progression in a public service is when the person does not rank up but moves to the preferred job. Which they specialise in.

Conclusion
In my conclusion vertical and horizontal progression is important in a public service because people get confused and think it is only vertical progression. But you must realise it is horizontal in public service as well because they need people to specialise in something. For example in the marines you could be a commando but you might specialise in engineering.
