During the hottest days of summer, your air conditioner may seem like a blessing - that is, until you receive your monthly electric bill. Studies have shown that heating and cooling systems can account for over half of a household's energy bill, with air conditioning using more energy than anything else. In fact, in especially warm climates, 60-70% of one's energy bill can be from an air conditioning system alone. Ultimately, paying for sky-high electric bills is the price we have to pay to stay cool and comfortable. Following are the ways by which we can maximize the cooling of split ac: 1. Direct sunlight can raise the temperature of a room by anywhere from 10 F to 20 F. Therefore, keeping high-angle summer sun out is imperative in order to maximize your AC's cooling efficiency. Cover your windows with curtains or drapes, and perhaps even trees and bushes from the outside (exterior shading is actually more effective than interior shading). 2. Fans can make you feel 3 to 8 degrees cooler, allowing you to dial your AC to a higher temperature and still feel just as cool and make sure your fan is blowing DOWN, to send air past your body, removing the hot air that surrounds your body. If your fan is blowing up, it won't do any good. In fact, it's worse than no fan, because it moves the warm air at the ceiling back down towards the living area. 3. Shade your condenser or window unit. Condensers in the shade use up to 10% less electricity than those in direct sunlight. 4. Use iron furniture for your room, it will maximize the cooling effect of your ac. 5. Make sure that the room being cooled is properly insulated, there is no air leakage. 6. Well-positioned shade trees can reduce indoor temperatures by up to 20 degrees and energy use by up to 40%. 7. Cover your rooftops with charcoal as it has a very good cooling capacity.
