Mini-Formula Racing Car from IIT Roorkees stable

Formula1 in India has created an impact not only on racing enthusiasts, but also on Indian automotive engineers. One such team from IIT Roorkee designed its own mini-F1 car to participate in Formula SAE Australia, the International student design competition. The competition, which is organized in Melbourne, Australia, witnessed the IIT Roorkee team compete head-to-head with teams from other parts of the world like Australia, USA, Germany, Italy and Japan. The 17 member team spent more than a year to design and then build the car themselves. It was not an easy ride, as it was very difficult to arrange the required budget and the team members had to shell out money from their own savings to begin. But slowly, the Indian Corporates took notice and came in to support the young talent. Major help came in from IndianOil, CEAT Tyres, Anand Automotive and Oxigen Group. Royal Enfield generously donated the team a brand new Bullet EFI 500 engine. Except this, the IIT Alumni community came in large numbers ad helped the students realize their dream. Team Leader Aneesh Mittal said This is not a race, but an engineering design competition. Our team ranked at 23rd position out of 30 participating teams, which is a very good result for us in our first effort. The team achieved what has been achieved in the past by very few Indian teams. We are currently designing our 2012 car, and aiming for a better finish in 2012 competitions.
