NBPTS Standards- Proposition 1: Teachers are Committed to Students and Their Learning

Artifact 1b: Five Motivational Theories

RATIONALE: In order to understand and commit to students learning, an educator must be able to relate to how a student learns. This paper on the Five Motivational Theories helps to build a foundation of knowledge that can be used to understand what pushes students to learn. Understanding these motivational theories allows an educator to adjust what they are teaching accordingly and it directly relates to knowing how students learn best as individuals, focusing not only on the academics but also the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors. REFLECTION: Researching and learning about these ve theories was really eye opening. I could really connect individual students to the different theories that are described. There are times as a teacher when you wonder why a student didnt seem to get a lesson that engages mostly everyone else. Understanding what motivates them, can really shed a light on why a lesson may not t that individual student. It really has improved my skills in how to create lessons that connect to motivating students in my classes.
