Using the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word 1. Click Insert / Object / Microsoft Equation 3.

0 / OK NOTE: If you do not see the Microsoft Equation 3.0 (or something similar) you may have to load it from your Office CD. You do this in the Control Panel (Start / Control Panel), and then click Add/Remove Programs icon. For step-by-step instructions, in Word, in the Help box type equation editor and select Insert an equation and there will be a link for How? that will walk you through more steps if needed.

2. Select the Matrix Templates

In the drop down window select the lower right corner to set up your own template

Set up the size of your matrix. Remember if you are adding an augmented matrix you must add the extra column. You can also click between columns to add the straight line between the coefficients and the constant.

After clicking OK you will see an empty Matrix with the cursor waiting the first cell.

Type your values and use tab to move between cells.

Next, take your mouse and click and highlight everything in the math editor

Then click the fence template button. Select the square brackets and then click outside of the equation to deselect it and TADA!

If you need to go back in to edit an equation, double click on it to be back in the Equation Editor window
