Pak PM accepts Geelani's proposal on 'Martyr's' memorial Forms committee to identify place, oversee design, and monitor the

construction work Srinagar: Accepting the proposal of pro-freedom leader and Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani for the construction of a 'martyrs' memorial, the Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK) government has formed a panel led by a Minister to oversee the construction of a the memorial to "honour the sacrifices of martyrs." In a letter written to the PaK Prime Minister, Chaudary Abdul Majeed, on February 9, Geelani had proposed that the PaK government construct a memorial for the "martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir." "Your suggestion is most welcome and I have formed a committee headed by Finance, Planning and Development Minister Chaudhary Latif Akbar which will choose the place for constructing the memorial, oversee its design and monitor the construction work," Majeed has said in a reply letter to Geelani, according to a statement issued here. The PaK Prime Minister added that, as proposed by Geelani, the "martyrs memorial would be unique in its design as compared to the memorials constructed in Western countries, and would remind the coming generations about the sacrifices of people of Jammu and Kashmir for freedom." "The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government is the representative of the people of the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir and as such it is my national duty to take steps for recognition of the sacrifices of our brothers for the national cause of freedom," he said.
