TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT PROCESS PRESENTED BY :ANNY ZEHRA BS (IT-7th)

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT
Technology management has emerged to address the particular ways in which companies should approach the use of technology in business strategies and operations. Technology is inherently difficult to manage because it is constantly changing, often in ways that cannot be predicted. Is linking "engineering, science, and management disciplines to plan, develop, and implement technological capabilities to shape and accomplish the strategic and operational objectives of an organization"

TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

Technological change is a combination of two activities invention and innovation. Invention is the development of a new idea that has useful applications. Innovation means renewal by application of new technologies, methods and procedures. term "innovation" to mean the process that transforms ideas or concepts into commercial value.

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT PROCESS

The basic idea of modern technology management is enabled by technology and know-how transfer from the outside which results in a substantial reduction of R&D-costs and shortening of innovation cycles and time-to-market. The technology management process consists of the following four steps i.e Technology tracking Technology adaption Technology integration Technology support

TECHNOLOGY TRACKING
Technology-Tracking. means seeking and evaluating of relevant technologies, applications and technology trends outside the enterprise .as well as finding appropriate potential partners. Technology-Tracking has the purpose to identify the optimal starting point of the TM process.

The process step of Technology-Tracking requires creativity, entrepreneural thinking.

TECHNOLOGY ADAPTION
The management decides about the trackingpartner and the technology to be tracked from the outside.

The process of Technology-Adaptation can take place within the enterprise or outside, depending upon the available know-how capacities and resources of the enterprise .

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER &INTEGRATION

All activities related to the adaptation process have been finished and the management has decided to start with step 3 of the Technology-Transfer & Integration.
Within the process of the Technology-Transfer & Integration the completely "Packaged Technology" (result of step 2 in the TM Process) will be transferred to and integrated into the product development process.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
Experience shows that despite rigorous management of the process step 1 to step 3 always new questions and problems arise, which have to be solved during the Product Development Process. The process of Technology-Support is often underestimated by enterprises, which results in a time delay of the product development process and unexpected costs.

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT PROCESS ADVANTAGES The main advantages of the TM Process are: The TM Concept enables technological innovations even for firms without internal knowhow and management resources needed for innovation. A further advantage is the accuracy of the innovation process due to the rigorous interface management between the customer/marketing, distribution, product development and technology departments.

Advantages
Moreover, introduction and realization of technology marketing activities already during the innovation management process will facilitate the marketing of the new products and services. In the last decade, the TM Concept has been further developed and successfully applied to large-scale enterprises, and start-ups of different industries and business areas.
