Meghan Garay Mr. Neuburger Eng. Comp. 102-102 6 March 2012 Response A Film Unfinished It is now understood why this is A Film Unfinished, and why it was never meant to be seen. This documentary did very well in exposing the cruel side of human nature. At first the video was supposed to be used as propaganda. It was to show the curious German community how well the Jews were at the Ghettos. The documentary started off showing the Ghetto thriving with Jews walking around in the streets. It showed happiness within the small community. Of course, it was all staged. Actors had been brought in to stage luxurious living, and joyous occasions such as parties and plays. However, as the Jews lives were truly filmed, the video began to promote the Germans decision to The Final Solution. The Jews were filmed in their everyday lives; in filth and starvation. Their suffering was clearly evident in their daily routines. Families were forced to live in one room apartments with other families. The cramped living space provided nothing but weakness that lead to sickness. Food was provided per German inventory, and it was scarce. Half of the food the families ate was from the garbage piles created by that thrown from the apartment windows. Sickness and malnutrition led to a numerous number of deaths. Corpses lay on sidewalks, only to be walked on, stepped over, and then dragged off to a packed grave. People knew the horrors of the Holocaust before, but it is different actually witnessing what happened.

This film was intense and eye-opening. I do not recommend it to those empathetic and/or faint of heart. It was difficult to see such suffering. The dead bodies were the most awful to see. They werent even really bodies. They were skeletons wearing a thin layer of skin. The thing that made this video even harder to watch was watching the Holocaust survivors watch the documentary. For them to have to relive that horrible time in their lives is just wrong. In the very beginning it was said that the film was originally made without sound; which is why I believe adding the commentary made it that more dramatic. While this video was graphic and intense, it did provide a better look into exposing what really happened within the walls of the Ghettos. Word Count: 391
