Step by Step NIM Master Configuration :

1. Initialize NIM Master Smitty NIM -> Configure the NIM Environment -> Advanced Configuration -> Initialize the NIM Master Only, give the network name and primary network install interface then press enter to execute.

2. Create LPP Source Smitty NIM -> Configure the NIM Environment -> Advanced Configuration -> Create Basic Installation Resources -> Create a New LPP_SOURCE Only choose master machine, fill Input device for installation images, LPP_SOURCE Name, LPP_SOURCE Directory. The Filesystem SIZE (MB) for lpp source minimum is 3.5GB, so give buffer at least 500 MB or more.You can change the volume group for new filesystem (such as : nimvg). And change Remove all newly added NIM definitions and filesystems if any part of this operation fails? to yes so if operation fail it will clean up the mess.

3. Create SPOT Smitty NIM -> Configure the NIM Environment -> Advanced Configuration -> Create Basic Installation Resources -> Create a New SPOT Only, Choose Input device for installation images, and fill SPOT Name. For filesytem SIZE minimum is 600MB, but give extra space for buffer. (example: 700MB). You can change the volume group for new filesystem (such as : nimvg). And change Remove all newly added NIM definitions and filesystems if any part of this operation fails? to yes so if operation fail it will clean up the mess.

4. Define client machine. Edit the /etc/hosts and put client IP.

Smitty NIM -> Perform NIM Administration Tasks -> Manage Machines -> Define a Machine, give Host Name of Machine as same as hostname in /etc/hosts.

5. Final step Smitty nim_bosinst -> select target client (example client1) -> select installation type (rte, mksysb, or spot) -> Select the LPP_SOURCE to use for the installation -> Select the SPOT to use for the installation. (select spot thats same level with lpp source.
