BARGAINING COMMITTEE REACHES TENTATIVE FIRST COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT WITH KGIC MANAGEMENT

We are very pleased to report that on February 22, 2012 the ETEA Local 6 bargaining committee reached a tentative first collective agreement with the management of KGIC. Although most of you have already been informed of the details during our campus-based member meetings, we have attached the agreed language to this bulletin. Please note that although we do not anticipate any substantive or fundamental changes, the language has not been yet been fully reviewed for any errors or omissions. Your bargaining committee believes that establishment of a collective agreement, for the first time, at KGIC brings with it improved terms and conditions of employment including member rights and protections not previously enjoyed. We also believe it lays the foundation for a productive and respectful relationship with the Employer. This is a good first collective agreement, and we are recommending its ratification. Some of the provisions include: Standardization of salary scales that will see an average 5% wage increase upon ratification 2% increase in the second year of the agreement and a further 2% in the third year Job security no discipline or dismissal without just cause 3 month probationary period Accountable layoff procedures Layoff recall rights for 8 months with all seniority re-instated upon recall Six consecutive sick days annually Seniority provisions including continued accumulation when off on leaves provided for in the Employment Standards Act such as Pregnancy and Parental leave Dispute resolution processes including third party binding decisions if the parties fail to resolve internally No discrimination or intimidation for exercising your rights Copyright protection Joint Union-Management Committees to discuss workplace issues and improvements to the benefit plan
