Good evening, on behalf of Greenpeace, it is my honor to stand on this stage to encourage each of you to said Yes to ban on idling

engines policy. Greenhouse effect has brought us a serious negative impact over the past two decades. Ecology disaster, i.e. ozone depletion, globe warming, climate shifted, etc. is no longer a scientific fiction. In fact, they are happening right now and will continue in developing. A latest ecology disaster, a 30-mile long crack has been found in Pine Island Glacier, Antarctica, in two month ago. What can you do to help in saving our planet? Tonight, you have the answer. Said Yes to ban on idling engines policy. Following statistic provide you the information for reference. Hong Kong has the highest road traffic density in the world. We have about 567,705 vehicles with a total road length of only 2009km. On average, there are 275 vehicles per km on the road. Vehicles are the second largest source of air pollution in Hong Kong, contributing 25% of respirable suspended particulates (RSP), 25% of nitrogen oxides(NOx) and 15% of carbon dioxide (CO2). Local public health experts have found roadside pollution levels are responsible for 90,000 hospital admissions and 2,800 premature deaths every year. Beside, cases of asthma and bronchial infections have increased substantially in recent years due to reduction of air quality. Today, reduction of carbon emission becomes a command goal of every nation. In order to protect the air quality for our next generation and relief our burden from medical expenses, I urge every one of you to say Yes, I support a completed ban on idling engines.

Thank you!
