Profile of a Canada Fur Trade Fort The Canada Guidebook Publishing Company is seeking contributions for a new guide in its series, Touring Canada. The guide will present profiles of fur trade forts in Canada to help tourists locate and learn about these remnants of Canadas history. Contributors need to select a fur trade fort and provide information on the following topics: 1. Title Page The title page should include the name of your fort, as well as any related pictures (drawn only) you believe are appropriate to catch the readers attention. *(Choose only one of 2 OR 3)* 2. Location a) Draw and color a map that shows the location of your fort. As you are the creator of the map, you may include aspects of the surrounding terrain such as mountains, rivers, forests, Landmarks, etc. Write a short paragraph explaining: What economic and geographic factors determined its location? b) Design and color a plan for the inside of the fort. When drawing, keep in mind questions such as: Who lives in the fort? Where do the fort residents sleep? What do they eat? How do they defend themselves in case of attack? Write a short paragraph explaining: Why did you design the inside of the fort in this way? 3. Location a) Draw and color a map that shows the location of your fort. 4. History a) Provide key details about the history of the fort, such as: Is it a French or British fort? When was it built? Was it involved in any disputes between the French, British, or First Nations fur traders? Describe at least one epic event that occurred at your fort during its history. Explain the role that competition played in the forts history.

Interactions Bring history to life by writing a short (~1 page) story about a typical interaction that would have occurred at the fort among groups of Europeans, First Nations, and/or Mtis peoples. 6. A Modern Perspective a) Its now 2011what remains of your fort today? Write an update of the services available for visitors at the site. b) What do you think should be done to preserve the integrity of the artifacts/relics at this site while, at the same time, providing information to the public?
