    It Costs a Dollar a Month to Sleep in These Sheds These tenements cost a dollar a month to rent.

    As you can see, the buildings are on the brink of destruction. A mother and child are depicted as well as three men sitting on the corner. The condition of the area is extremely disgusting only simulating what we must infer, the lifestyles of these New Yorker immigrants to be. Jacob Riis has really captured the essence of the New York slums in the early twentieth century.
