Writing Workshop 1

In this writing workshop, you are going to compose two original rhyming poems. Poem 1 - Narrative Poem (a poem that tells a story) Poem 2 - Figurative Poem (a poem that is a simile, metaphor, or uses personication) Both poems need to include end rhyme. How should you begin: 1. Begin by brainstorming your writing territories. What do you feel comfortable writing about? What do you want to write about? 2. Write one poem at a time. Begin with the narrative OR the figurative poem. 3. Just write. Dont think about the fact that you are writing a poem. Just get your thoughts out. You can form them into a poem later. 4. Turn your thoughts into a poem. Make sure you remember to use rhyming words. 5. Work on your second poem. (Repeat steps 3 and 4.) 6. Use the revision tips worksheet to revise your poem. 7. Write your final draft and add an illustration.
