PHYSIOLOGY OF SCLERAL REFLEX (CORNEAL SENSITIVITY/REFLEX)

Peripheral Stimulus

The nasociliary branch of the ophthalmic branch (V1) of the 5th cranial nerve (trigeminal nerve) sensing the stimulus on the cornea, lid, or conjunctiva.

Main sensory ganglion of the Trigeminal Nerve

Internuncial neurons connect with the motor nucleus of the facial nerve on Both sides (Through the medial longitudinal fasciculus)

The 7th cranial nerve (Facial nerve) initiating the motor response (i.e. it is the efferent).

Orbicularis oculi of both sides

Closure of eyelids
