BSN III-4 SPIRITUAL INTERVENTION

Patient with ACUTE ILLNESS Patient needs love, support, care and concern from significant others. Patients need empathy. Encourage the client to verbalize any distress or concern regarding his/her sickness. Determine the support system available to the client how they handle and used it. Assess client, religion/spiritual orientation, current, involvement presence of conflict. Assess client to develop goals foe dealing with illness situation. Explore connection to disease to strengthen belief patterns and customs in daily life

Chronically Ill Patients Patients need presence and empathy by the nurses/ significant others. Patient needs hope. Patient needs love, support, care and concern from significant others. Forgive self and others need to express issues before death. Provide information that anger with God is a normal part of the grieving process. Determine sense of futility, feeling of hopelessness, lack of motivation to self. Assess client to identify significant others and individuals /support groups that could provide ongoing support

Need to understand life after death.

Encourage expression of illness/condition, death. Verbalize concern about the endof life issues and fear of death. Make time for non-judgmental discussion of philosophical issues/questions about spiritual impact of illness/situation or treatment regimen Assess sense of self-concept, worth, ability to appreciate life and satisfaction
