Q1: What would you do is you were asked to investigate whether the allegations in the case are true? Explain. A: The suit alleged that Marubeni American Corp: + Discriminated against Americans, Non- Asian minorities, and women + Violated immigration laws + Committed accounting fraud + Allow executives to abuse their expense account Its necessary that all of these accusations should be checked again. Firstly, for all of them except for the discrimination one, it is not too difficult to find out whether the allegations are true. An external audit is recommended to solve the problem. They could easily find out the real situation. However, with the accusation of discrimination, it is not easy to conclude, just because the culture, value and attitude of Japanese people are quite different from the other. They have the tendency to use people having the same nationality with them, not because of discrimination. The investigation of this should be conducted after all of the other is taken in to consideration. Q2: If you were the top Japanese executive of the trading company, what steps would you take to prevent the actual of purported behaviors taking place at the U.S subsidiary? Explain A: Firstly, investigating and fixed the existing problems are necessary. Then, it may be better for the Japanese executive to think of one of these two ways: + Use only Asian human resource for their U.S subsidiary. + Or else, the company should give more change for talented American employees. In other word, the companys human recourses should be more diversified and EEO should be more considered Q3: What diversity practices would you put in place to prevent the kinds of behaviors alleged in this case? A: There are some ways to apply in diversifying the work force including: + Top management commitment to valuing diversity + Appraising and rewarding managers for good diversity practices + Diversity training programs + Support Group + Accommodation of family needs + Senior mentoring programs +Apprentice ships + Communication standard + Diversity Audits + Manager responsibility and accountability All of the above method can be applied in this situation in order to make the company be more diversified.
