WHO ARE THE CONTRACTORS?

Contractors are the persons outside from the industry,who have the responsibility to perform a work in & around the installation that include highly hazardous process & chemicals.

SCREENING & HIRING CONTRACTORS

Since contractors have to work around with highly hazardous & toxic materials so its very important to hire those contractors who can accomplish desired tasks without any compromise with the safety & health of any worker or employee. Employer must obtain necessary references & information on safety record of contractors.

CONTRACTORS SKILL & KNOWLEDGE

Employer must ensure that the contractor has required working skills, knowledge, experience & certification regarding hazardous chemicals, process, pressure vessel, welding etc.

TRAINING

Contractors should be given minimum HSE training so that they become aware of basic safety rules to be followed in installation. Everybody working in a petroleum industry must receive at least a basic fire fighting training before he is assigned to work.

SITE INJURY & ILLNESS LOG

To track & maintain current knowledge of activities involving contract employees working on or adjacent to process covered by PSM. This log contains information useful to those auditing PSM compliance & those involved in incident investigation.

CONCLUSION

Contract employee must perform their work safely. Their work must be controlled & supervised by employer because they are performing potentially hazardous tasks.
