The programme consists of 58 credits and consists of 6 compulsory unit standards, and 4 others relevant to the Ng ti Rangitihi rohe. The course will be held in Matat and run by Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi.

Programme Objectives:
During the course of the programme students will develop basic understanding of; * M ori customary linkages with fish and fish utilisation * Find and catch fish using M ori customary methods * Describe the impact of legislation and commercialisation on M ori customary fishing activities * Explain customary fishing rights and impacts on legislation * Explain and apply customary management tools and practices used for sustainable fishing * Explain the authorisation procedures associated with the harvest of a customary catch * Harvest a customary catch and describe post-harvest according to tikanga and legislation * Describe the rights and responsibilities of personnel associated with a customary catch
