DEMOCRACY MATTERS @ PROVIDENCE COLLEGE

(The following passage is the language used in our petition to become a recognized group on campus. The language used offers the key aspects to our claim that Democracy Matters is unique and beneficial to the Providence College community; it provides structure for how we want to be portrayed on campus, and for what we intend to do on campus. Familiarizing yourself with this language will help you understand Democracy Matters at Providence, and it will also make you feel more confident and more comfortable when talking about Democracy Matters.)

We the undersigned, students, employees, faculty, and other Providence College constituents, urge the members of Student Congress to approve the Providence College chapter of Democracy Matters. We believe in Democracy Matters at PC, we agree on the positive impact this student organization will have on us, the college, and the community, and we are urging you to approve this chapter for the following reasons: The chapter of Democracy Matters at Providence College will
Allow for students to be involved with a political orientated club without having to pick between PC Democrats or PC Republicans. Strengthen and promote cooperative, bipartisanship among PC students Provide a paid internship, through the Democracy Matters Institute, each academic school year to a member looking to hold a leadership position within the PC chapter. Democracy Matters also provides funds and other resources to the campus chapters minimizing the chapters dependency on school resources. Inspire a genuine interest in politics and current events among students. Promote active citizenry and political engagement - an essential component to American democracy. Be unique in the sense that the organizations efforts will go beyond the campus walls. Democracy Matters seeks actual change and takes action to ensure that the values, principles, and procedures of American democracy are upheld. Serve as an attraction for current and prospective students looking to get involved with sociopolitical activism. Educate, engage, and raise awareness regarding crucial issues that affect everyone in the country and throughout the world. Empower the students! Democracy Matters works to empower the voices of our generation.
