1) The excess zinc powder is added to 25

cm3 of CuSO4 solution. The temperature rise from 30c to 38c. The equation for the reaction:
Zn(s) + Cu2+(aq) Zn2+(aq) + Cu(s) H= -217 kJmol-1

Calculate: a) Temperature change of the reaction b) The heat given off in the reaction c) The number of moles of CuSO4 reacted d) the concentration of CuSO4 solution used (Specific Heat Capacity, c=4.2 Jg-1c-1, density of solution= 1 gcm-3)

2) When 50 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 of NaCI is added to 50 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 AgNO3 solution, temperature rise of the mixture is x C. Determine the temperature change when a) 100 cm3 of 2.0 moldm-3 of NaCI reacts with 100 cm3 of 2.0 moldm-3 AgNO3 solution b) 100 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 of NaCI reacts with 100 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 AgNO3 solution c) 100 cm3 of 0.25 moldm-3 of NaCI reacts with 100 cm3 of 0.25 moldm-3 AgNO3 solution

Solution
Number of moles of NaCI= n of AgNO3 n= 0.025 mol Mass of the solution= (50 + 50) cm3 m = 100 g Formula H= H = mc n So, H = mc = H n mc = H n = H n Since temperature change is x C mc = x C

a) Number of moles NaCI = AgNO3 n= 0.2 mol n= (8 x 0.025 mol) = 8n Mass of the solution = (100 + 100) cm3 = 200 g = 2m 2mc = H 8n = H 8n 2mc = 4 H n So, = 4xC mc

b) Number of moles NaCI = AgNO3 n= 0.05 mol n= (2 x 0.025 mol) = 2n Mass of the solution = (100 + 100) cm3 = 200 g = 2m 2mc = H 2n = H 2n 2mc = H n So, = xC mc

c) Number of moles NaCI = AgNO3 n = 0.025 mol =n Mass of the solution = (100 + 100) cm3 = 200 g = 2m 2mc = H n = H n 2mc = H n So, = xC 2mc

3) 200 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 Ba(NO3)2 is poured into 200 cm3 of 0.5 moldm-3 Na2SO4 solution. Temperature change in the reaction is 4 C. If the experiment is repeated by adding 100 cm3 of 1.0 moldm-3 Ba(NO3)2 to 100 cm3 of 1.00 moldm-3 Na2SO4 solution, what is the temperature rise????????
