Mr. Kevin Powell, a renowned activist, author, scholar: will be in


Virginia for a 3 day Residency at Virginia State University. He will be leading 2 workshops and a State of Black America Town Hall. Day 1: On Monday April 2, 2012 from 6 p.m- 9 p.m, Mr. Powell will be leading a Closed Door Session for Black Women to discuss the unique issues that face Black, Brown, and other disenfranchised Women in the United States. The topics will include relationships/dating, leadership, gendered violence, health, and self esteem.

Day 2: On Tuesday April 3, 2012 from 6.pm to 9 p.m., Mr. Powell will be leading a Closed Door Session for Black Men to discuss the unique issues that face Black, Brown and other disenfranchised Men in the United States. The topics will include the Devaluation of Black Life, Being Black and Male in America, leadership and accountability, health, and redefining Black masculinity.

Day 3: His visit will culminate with a State of Black America Town Hall followed by a Book Signing, on Wednesday April 4, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., where he will discuss the state of Black America and the system, the issues that communities nationwide are facing offering strategies for activism, transformation, and solidarity in these economic times.
