Brian Delaporte 2/29/12 SMAD 210 Nan Zheng One Unlucky Von Unwerth. Imagine yourself drowning.

Now imagine yourself drowning as a helpless four year old who hasnt the slightest clue as to whats up or whats down in the water. Seventeen years ago marks a time in Emilie Von Unwerths life she will never forget. As a child in the summer, Emilie and her family would go to their local country club community pool. The pool was large, equipped with two diving boards and always relatively crowded. Emilie remembers the incident clear and vividly. I was on the diving board closest to the left hand side of the pool, she recalls. I was showing my Mom that I could jump off of the diving board, and for some reason, my brother thought it would be funny to push me. Her brothers innocent push proved to be less than funny. Emilie ended up splitting her chin open on the lip of the pool, consequently falling in. The pool quickly went from a clear blue color to a shade of red. She started to drown and the lifeguards seemed to be stagnant, almost shocked as to what had happened. They just stood there, Emilie stated. Next thing I knew my Mom had jumped into the pool in her clothes and heels. She saved me. But the story doesnt end there. After being rescued by her mother, Emilie was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. She received six stiches in her chin for her nine year old brothers practical joke. I didnt freak out about getting them in, Emilie said Getting them out was a different story. Emily cried when she had to get her stitches removed. For her bravery, her mother rewarded her with a Doodle Bear, a stuffed animal that could be drawn on then thrown in the washer to clean. Even today however, the lasting memory of her fall leaves Emilie with a sour taste in her mouth. Its kind of a sore subject, she said. He and I still get in fights about it. Family; cant live with them, cant live without them.
