Abstract: The concept of social security aims to provide safeguard from ndustrial insecurities, general ailments and i unfortunate

dispossessions. The need of social ecurity has s been felt even in countries having a high economic development. In all ndustrial economies, the role played by i social security is immense. It is the initiative of the state to provide for the exigencies of the worker. Ensuring social security for the organised sector is a comparatively easier challenge than doing so for the unorganised sector. It is noteworthy that the unorganised sector accounts for a larger share of the workforce. To ensure the the cover of social security to the unorganised sector, in 1999, the Second National Commission on Labour suggested hat an all inclusive legislation for unorganized t sector be enacted n view of liberalization and globalization. i Subsequent to it the ational Commission on Enterprises in N Unorganised Sector NCEUS) was formed in 2004. ( The project aims at giving a brief overview of the concept of social security and to critically examine the said legislation.
