London, Diversity, and Segregation: A Study of Ethnicity and Religion

Aims: 1) to determine whether London is concentrated more by religion or by ethnicity and 2) to identify any correlations between concentrations of religion and ethnicity. DUE DATE: Thursday, November 24th, 2011 Directions Step 1: Write your assigned religious group here: __________________________. Step 2: There are 32 boroughs in London. For each borough, calculate the location quotient for your assigned religious group. Equation for calculating LQ is:

Step 3: Fill out the following table: Borough Bromley Location Quotients for (Insert your assigned group here) 1.24

Step 4: Open the blank boroughs map with Microsoft Paint or some other equivalent software. You must open the borough map with a program that will allow you to use a Fill tool.

Step 4: Create a key (like the one in your book) for your cholorpleth map. It should have 6 levels of colors. You may use any colors of your choice. Just make sure the map colors are appealing. Use the same numbers as the one in your book (0.7 low, 0.7-0.9, 0.9-1.1, etc). Points will be taken off if there is no key. (Like the one in your book).

Step 5: Create a chloropleth map from the data and your color key. After categorizing each borough according to its proper color, save the map as a common picture format (JPEG)

Step 6: 1) Embed the picture below, 2) email the photo (as a separate file) to Mr. David, 3) email this completed assignment (in Word document format), and 4) answer the following three questions on the next page.

Does it seem that your assigned religion is more or less concentrated than Londons ethnicities?
