Buffers (LAB #8) Kostadin Alargov 1. The average pKa for this system was found to be 4.57+/-0.21.

The Ka calculated is 2.69x10^-5. The closest match that could be found was Hydroazoic acid with next closest being acetic acid although both are a bit far off of the value above. 2. The average deviation was found to be 0.72. The measured values were in a close agreement with the calculated except for one which was off by 0.64 or 13% off. 3. For the addition of acid the best buffer was solution E which saw the lowest change in pH. In solution E the concentrations of the buffer components were the highest and therefore upon addition of the same amount of acid this solution has higher capacity to resist change. For the base solution I was the best buffer based on the change in measured pH. 4. Looking at the formal concentrations it seems that the pH does not depend on it. (at least not significantly for the concentrations we have used.
