Ratio of two polynomials of S, can written as :-

For zeros A(s) =0 For poles B(s) =0

Where ao, a1, a2,an and b0, b1, b2bn are the coffecient of polynomials.

Where Z1, Z2 .. n are the roots of A(s)=0

P1,P2Pn are the roots of B(s)=0

a0/b0 =constant , called scalar factor.

Z(s) = (S - 3)/S

Zeros = 3 Pole = 0

A function is given by z(s) = 2s/(s^2+16). Draw its pole zero plot. Solution:For a given function factorisation of denominator gives

(S^2+16) = (S+j4) (S- j4) Z(s)= 2s/(S+j4) (S-j4)

Scale factor is 2 , poles are at S=+j4, and j4 , zeros at S=0.

The pole- Zero plot is shown in next slide:-
