WE COULD STILL DO IT.
Manchester United 8 Arsenal 2. Manchester United 1 Manchester City 6. Leeds United 3 Nottingham Forest 7. These things happen. Fortunately, ours is an all-electric household so I couldn't put my head in the gas oven. But we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and start all over again. On the positive side, four away games, four clean sheets! A bit of a change from earlier on in the season. It would appear that as in League One two years ago, most teams do not want to get promoted. Despite all our travails, we are still just three points behind the Play-Off positions and we have Reading, Blackpool and Cardiff away from home - all six-pointer challenges. The points tossed away against Forest and West Ham, make the challenge difficult but we could still do it if we are all Marching on Together. No way, Jose! At a time when the Scots (unwisely in my opinion), are advocating devolution or independence, I repeat: Why should we take their clubs into the English competitions? They have nothing to offer the English game and it would mean that the two medium-sized clubs would be pushed down to a lower level just so that the English money could be exported to Scotland. The Scottish Premier League's overall standards are little higher than those of Cyprus - and at least a Cypriot club has reached the quarter-finals of the European Champions League. Many Scottish players have come south and played with great distinction, including (to name but a few): Law, Ferguson, Dalglish, Strachan, Bremner, Lorimer and Gray ... all the way down to our own Snodgrass and McCormack. The SPL is a great feeder league to the top-flight of British football and long may it continue. Up yours Alex Salmond! It's been an eventful two weeks in football.
