APRIL MEETING
The Golden Circle
The Power of Words that Make an Impact
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM, April 3, 2012
As women in communication, it is natural for us to seek out new and improved ways to communicate a value proposition, to manage a crisis or to navigate the latest media channels. A common denominator of the success of these ventures is understanding the power of the word in communications. Join Dan Prater, founding director of the Center for Nonprofit Communication at Drury University on Tuesday, April 3, as he shares the power of The Golden Circle. Why does your organization exist? Why does it do the things it does? And why is it that some organizations and people are more successful, more influential than others? The Golden Circle is a theory that helps explain the power of words and their impact on others. Takeaway: 1. Communication is the key to success in virtually every setting 2. People care more about why than what 3. Communication has the power to change the world Dan Prater is the founding director of the Center for Nonprofit Communication at Drury University. He is also a faculty member and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in communications. Prior to joining Drury University, Dan was the Public Affairs

Make sure youre aiming high enough. Look and act the part for what you want out of life. Surround yourself with people who are making strides to reach their goals, or better yet, people who already made it. hough not alone in our strides to reach fulfillment and success, each of us has a different vision of what that success looks like. For some, its simply a day at the office without conflict; for others, its landing a lucrative new account. Whether the result is big or small, monetary or emotional, it takes visualization to reach your goals. After a recent small campaign success, I was challenged by my boss to think bigger, and I realized I was limiting my visualization capacity. In order to succeed, we must envision where we want to go. The further we can visualize, the further we can go. Member Maggie Castrey shared with me that she creates a vision board every year. She is in China as I write this. Im

THANK YOU
Many thanks to all who attended our February meeting and who helped promote our program Integrating Social Media in your marketing. The topic and the speaker brought in 65 reservations, wonderful community exposure for AWC, and some very positive program evaluations. A meeting of this size is never the result of just one persons labor. As such, I wanted to thank in particular the following for their extra efforts in making the program such a success: EMILY COULTER for managing the site and all those additional rsvps and phone calls MAGGIE CASTREY for managing the survey and connecting with Dana Fowler to make it all happen MICHELE KAUFFMAN for working the registration table with such charm, ANGELA FRIZELL for her guidance and support throughout all the preparations SHARINA SMITH AND MONICA WHITWORTH for promoting the event within the AWC community. MELISSA ADLER for expertly crafting the news release that was picked up by the Springfield News Leader, Itsalldowntown.com, Ozarksfirst.biz, and both PRSA and Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook pages. Your hard work is appreciated! -Susan VanDoren, AWC program chair
