On April 8, 2011, CREW filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Department of Education seeking all emails between former Deputy Undersecretary Robert Shireman and any Education official from June 2010, the date of Mr. Shireman’s departure from the agency, to the present. Although Education officials stated Mr. Shireman would stay on in an advisory capacity after his departure, Education has orally advised CREW, in response to another FOIA request, it has no record of any contract between Education and Mr. Shireman. With this latest FOIA request CREW seeks to learn whether Mr. Shireman has continued to advise Education without compensation and on what subjects.

Deliberative Process: Mini Super IPEDS
All,
Attached is a truncated version of SuperIPEDS for your enjoyment. Sorry about the size again, but | thought you all
would like to have thi
ve also attached a list of the variables included in the file for you to refer to, if the variable names aren’t obvious (I did
my best to make it self-explanatory).
Ifyou have questions, just let me know.
'’m still happy to run any data that you need from SuperIPEDS and I'm in the office all day on Wednesday, | just know
everyone was very interested to see the data and probably has their own ideas in mind for how they'd like to view it,
Jessica
P.S, Susan — this is just a more friendly version (I made variable names a little more self-explanatory) of what you have
from earlier today.

The June 2010 issue of Inside ED helps Department employees understand more about their
colleagues with disabilities, and how all ED colleagues can work together effectively.
On the job, persons with disabilities are contributing their talents and working alongside their
peers to fulfill their individual potential as they make valuable contributions to our society and
to our economy. To improve ED’s productivity and workforce culture, its important for all of
us to think about how we can encourage and nurture appropriate attitudes toward our
colleagues, potential employees, and customers with disabilities. Our goal is to build a
dynamic workforce culture that is inclusive of people with disabilities, and to enhance the
Department’s reputation as a premier employer both within and outside of the federal
government.

Among the featured stories are:
IP/TV (Internet Protocol Television) is a thing of the past, and most employees won’t cry
at its funeral, As of May, a new system, Mediasite, has replaced IP/'TV for all
Departmentwide video broadcasts, including All-Staff meetings, the Education Policy
Briefing Series, auditorium events, and training sessions.
+ You Wrote It, But Can Everyone Read It?
If you play any part in creating or purchasing electronic documents, Web sites, or other
information technology that will be used by or distributed to others in the Department
or to external audiences, you have a responsibility to make sure it is accessible to
15persons with disabilities. This primer will show you how to make sure every employee
can get the most out of your electronic products.

+ Passings
‘The Department is remembering former ED employee JoLeta Reynolds, who passed
away on April 16 after a long illness, and Hugh Monaghan, who passed away April 7.
Both of these staffers were well respected and will be greatly missed.

s Youngest Get a Taste of the Workplace at Take Our Children to Work Day, by OCO
intern Jonathan Munoz
This year’s Take Our Children to Work Day, held on April 22, may have been the most
fun and successfull one ever. More than 140 children from HQ, and more at the
regional offices, became honorary ED employees for the day. ED’s newest — and
youngest — employees got to take a security tour, get fingerprinted, and, of course, take
pictures with Arne.
