Diamond Weight Estimation Chart

To estimate the weight of different shaped diamonds, this chart provides formulas that multiply the diamond's length, width, depth, and a shape-specific factor. For round diamonds, the formula is diameter x diameter x depth x 0.0061. Other shapes, like oval, heart, princess, and emerald, also use formulas that multiply the diamond dimensions and a factor. Diamonds cut to proper proportions will have weights close to the estimates, while off-proportion diamonds can vary more.

Diamond Weight Estimation Chart

To obtain approximate weights of the following diamond shapes, multiply by the following measurements in millimeters.

Round = Diameter x diameter x depth x .0061 Oval = Length x width (divided by 2) x depth x .0062 Heart = Length x width x depth x .0059 Princess = Length x width x depth x .0083 Triangle = Length x width x depth x .0057 Emerald = Length x width x depth x factor Factor .0080 .0092 .0100 .0106 .00565 .00580 .00580 .00595 .00615 .00600 .00590 .00575 Length to Width ratio 1.00:1 1.50:1 2.00:1 2.5-:1 1.50:1 2.00:1 2.50:1 3.00:1 1.25:1 1.50:1 1.66:1 2.00:1

Marquise = Length x width x depth x factor

Pear = Length x width x depth x factor

To obtain the length to width ratio, divide the length by the width. The above measurements estimations are based on diamonds cut to proper proportions. Diamonds with off makes will vary in actual weight far more than those with proper proportioning.
