Weight of Steel Bar = Volume of Steel Bar x Unit Weight of Steel

Weight of steel Flat bar = (width * length * thickness) x 7850 (kg/m 3)

Ex: Calculate the weight of MS Flat bar of length = 1 m, width = 40 mm and

Thickness = 20 mm

Weight of steel bar = (1 * .04 * .02) * 7850 = 6.28 kg. This is to say that the
weight of 1 m of steel is 6.28 kg. So, if have a total length of bars equal to 125 m,
we can calculate the total weight as:

Total length * weight of 1 m

Assume a steel bar with a diameter of D and a length is L.

Weight of Steel Bar (W) = Unit Weight of Steel (7850) x Volume of Bar

Volume of Bar = πD²/4

Weight of Steel Bar (W) = 7850 * πD²/4

At this point, we have D in meters and the 7850 in kg/m 3. If we want to use the
diameter in mm, we need to convert it to m:

D² (mm) / 1000²

W = 7850 * π/4 x D²/1000²

W = D²/162 kg/m, where D is in mm —-> Eq. 1

if the total length of bar is L, total weight will be W * L:

W = L*D²/162 kg, where D is in mm —-> Eq. 2

If you want to calculate the weights per feet, the 162 is changed to 533

Weight of Steel Bars

Using the previous equations, we can calculate the weight of various steel bars:

Assuming the length of the bar is 1 m, we use equation 1:

Let us consider the MS plate of size 3m×2m×6mm. as shown in the fig. below.

Rectangular mild steel plate.

Here, length L = 3m, breadth B = 2 m, and thickness T = 6mm = 0.006m

The volume of the steel plate

= [length × breadth × thickness ( depth)]

Mild Steel Weight Calculation

Weight Calculation of Hollow Round Pipe
How to Calculate Weight of Hollow Round Pipe?
Solution:
Therefore, since 1" = 25.4mm - 1.5" = 25.4 x 1.5 = 38.1mm

D = 38.1mm
R = 19.05mm
L = 2 x π x r = 2 x π x 19.05 = 119.69mm
Thickness of pipe = 2mm
Section of Flat plate = 119.69mm x 2mm

Weight of Hollow round pipe in kgs/m = Area of bar / 127

= (119.69 x 2) / 127

Weight of Hollow round pipe in kgs/m = 1.884 kgs/ m

Length of Hollow round pipe = 20'

Therefore, 1’ = 0.3048m – 20 x 0.3048 = 6.096 m
Weight of Hollow round pipe = 6.096 x 1.884 =11.484 kgs

Weight of Steel bar in kgs/Ft = Area of bar / 416.56

= (119.69 x 2) / 416.56

Weight of Steel bar in kgs/Ft = 0.5746 kgs/ Ft

Length of Flat plate = 20'
Weight of Hollow round pipe = 0.5746 x 20' = 11.492 kgs

Weight Calculation of I-Beam

How to Calculate Weight of I-Beam?

Solution:
Therefore, since 1" = 25.4mm | 6" = 25.4 x 6 = 152.4 mm | 4” =
25.4 x 6 = 101.6mm

Dividing C/S Of I-Beam In Three Parts

Area-1 = 152.4mm x 2mm = 304.8mm2
Area-2 = 101.6mm x 2mm = 203.2mm2
Area-3 = 152.4mm x 2mm = 304.8mm2
Total Area = 812.8mm2

Weight Of I-Beam In Kgs/m = Area of bar / 127 = 812.8 / 127

= 6.4 Kgs/m
Length of I-beam = 20'

Therefore, 1’ = 0.3048m – 20 x 0.3048 = 6.096 m

Weight of I-beam = 6.4 x 6.096 = 39.014 kgs

Weight Of I-Beam In Kgs/feet = Area of bar / 416.56 =

812.8 / 416.56 = 1.951 Kgs/feet

For more
Weight of I-beam in kgs/feet = Area of bar x Density of steel
Area in mm2 = 812.8 x 0.00785
= 6.38kgs/m
= 6.38 / 3.28
= 1.945 kg/Ft

Weight of I-beam in kgs/feet = Area of bar x Density of steel

812.81mm2 to m2 = 812.81/10002 = 0.0008128m2

Area in m2 = 0.0008128 x 7850

= 6.38kgs/m
= 6.38 / 3.28
= 1.945 kg/Ft

Length of I-beam = 20'

Weight of I-beam = 1.951 x 20 = 39.02 kgs
