Enhancing Speech Quality

Traditional Voice-Enhancement Solutions There are several typical approaches to voice enhancement in GSM networks Some GSM handsets have basic noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellation built in.

Speech Quality Analysis

Parameters -> RxQual -> Frame Erasure Rate (FER) -> Speech Quality Index (SQI) Measurements -> Drive test (preferably continuous call) Cause for poor quality ->low signal strength (coverage related) -> interference -> low signal strength and Interference Causes of interference -> co-channel interference -> adjacent channel interference -> intermodulation (mainly on one link only) -> multipath interference

All GSM operators use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to judge their network performance and evaluate the Quality of Service (QoS) GSM radio frequency (RF) network performance evaluation is presented on the basis of four major KPIs i.e., -> Call set up success rate (CSSR), -> Call Drop Rate (CDR), -> Handover Success Rate (HSR) -> Radio traffic channel (TCH) congestion rate

What is Network Optimisation ?

Improving Capacity, Quality and General Performance of the existing Network Infrastructure.

Why Optimisation?
Coverage holes Performance degradation by interference Different subscriber distribution compared to that assumed for the network design Unexpectedly high subscriber growth Extensive network expansions ongoing Frequency resources at the limit Unexpected mobility profile of subscribers

Aim of Network Optimisation

Improved Network Quality Speech quality, Call success rate, Call setup time Improved Network Availability Service area , Radio Coverage Optimized utilization of installed equipment Increase in subscriber potential

Advantages
Optimum utilization of the system resources Minimized costs Reduced subscriber complaints Optimised subscriber satisfaction

RF Optimization of GSM
RF Optimization of GSM network can be done by performing the Drive Test (DT). RF Optimization is used to analyze performance stats and evaluate QoS(Quality of Service) offered by the existing network

RF Optimization of GSM Techniques

GSM Optimization ->Fast and Accurate Network Optimization. ->Network Coverage.

. The sites having different frequency and

miscellaneous parameter allocations are planed. Once the sites are planned, the next phase is to acquire the required land called site acquisition phase

Contd..
After site acquisition, engineering teams install BTS(Base Transreceiver Station) sites. RNP teams test the planned sites with some test parameters and frequencies to verify their planned parameters and link budgets etc such as signal level, signal quality, speech quality, path balance, path loss, call connectivity to cater the subscriber demand.

Radio frequency network optimization (RNO)

1) To improve the existing network coverage and capacity. 2) To improve the offered service quality for fulfillment of customer demands. 3) To maintain the KPIs under pre-defined threshold. 4) To sustain the QoS criteria being imposed by countrys regulatory authority. 5) To standardize and benchmark the network performance

Applications
RF optimization minimises blocking/congestion over air interface in order to provide better QoS. RF Optimization is also used to analyze performance stats and evaluate QoS offered by the existing network

Actix Post Processing Tool

What is ACTIX ?:
A post-processing tool for GSM, GPRS, UMTS, CDMA-one, CDMA2000 and IS-95.

What we can do with ACTIX ?:

Actix provides users the ability to manage, visualize, replay, analyze and optimize networks based on collected data

Where we can use ACTIX ?

Why ACTIX?

Actix A-RVS( Rollout Verification Solution) module will be used to troubleshoot and optimise UMTS networks. ACTIX, as a network optimization platform, is a powerful tool that will allow you to discover, locate, manage, troubleshoot and find solutions of our network problem. We just have to know what we are looking for.
