Battle of Chancellorsville.

The battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, takes place on April 30, 1983 between the forces commanded by General Joseph Hooker, from the Union, against those commanded by General Lee of the Confederates. Its being said that the forces of General Hooker we twice as many soldiers when compared with General Lees. Despite the difference in size of each army, it was the Confederates who won the battle. During the Campaign of Vicksburg, Mississippi, General Grant manage to get the control of the Mississippi river, therefore dividing the Confederates in two. Battle of Gettysburg Between July 1st and July 3rd of 1863, more than 165 thousand soldiers participate in the critical battle of Gettysburg, in Pennsylvania. General Lee faced the forces of General George G. Meade, and even though the Union won, loses in both sides were dramatical. The final result was 22,000 lifes lost for the Union versus 30,000 lifes lost for the Confederate. Battle of Chattanooga Between November 23rd and November 25th of 1863, during the battle of Chattanooga in Tennessee, General Grant defeats the Confederate army and forces the army to retire. This event caused that later in the process, the Union re-conquered the control of Atlanta. In May 1864, General Lee successfully stops the progress of General Grants troops, but in the process loses and enormous part of his army, 55,000 troops, and continues advancing towards Richmond, the capital of the Confederates. Battle of Coldharbor In June of 1864 takes place the last victory of General Lee of the Confederate. General Grant of the of the Union suffers a great defeat, loosing 13,000 troops versus 2,500 of General Lee s troops. Between June 1864 and Abril 1865 General Grant surrounds Petersburg, and important route of communications and supplies with Richmond. The troops living in trenches for almost 60 miles participate. Between September and December 1864, General William Sherman moves towards Atlanta and later destroys the city. Then he sets up a march towards the sea. In the process he destroys several railways, buildings and crops to destroy the Confederates morale and spirit.
