CALL vs.

Distance Learning Whereas CALL as a component of an L2 curriculum may include classroom activities, distance learning does not. In the case of learning less commonly taught languages (LCTLs), distance learning may be the only L2 experience for the student. Distance learning is both remote and asynchronous. Teachers and other students are removed from the learner in space and time. The authors argue that is is precisely because of these two problematic features of distance learning that technology decisions be motivated by methodological principles in order to foster a "psycholinguistically optimal instructional environment."
