Eric Yu Mrs. McAllister Ap Lang March 20, 2012 Hidden Truths She closed the book, placed it on the table, and finally, decided to walk through the door. A lifetime of questions had finally been answered. But where was the comfort she desired? Continuing forwards, she saw the setting sun created flailing shadows in the distance. Children, unaware of her situation, played innocently on the sidewalk. Everything around her appeared normal, but everything inside her felt contorted. For the last decade, she had pressed for details of her birth, her family, and her life, and now as all these details swirled around in her head, she was rather perplexed. Her mother, who had always claimed herself a circus performer, lived a second life secretly. What else was a lie? The trails had led her to the house and the book inside. The question of the day still rang in her mind. My mother, a CIA agent? The weight-bearing truth kept her confined her from living freely. Her mother had passed away unexpectedly 5 years ago. The book revealed that who she had known as her siblings were actually genetically unrelated children. The world she had once known had turned completely upside down. She had nowhere to go to, nobody to turn to. Her frenzied state of mind nearly pushed her towards insanity. Realizing the importance of a

tangible anchor to keep her rational state of mind, she turned around to go retrieve the book. After rushing back through the door to the table, the book no longer remained. In its place lay a note with two letters written in a distinct fashion----- JC. The two letters represented her initials, but they were written in a style that she had last seen 5 years ago.
