The movie starts with establishing the character of Michael Clayton played by George Clooney as a lawyer with a leading firm in New York City. Michael is saved by an inch, when he comes out of his car to see some horses and his car explodes and the movie then runs into a four days ago flashback. He receives a call from a his colleague Arthur, whos in a fix as he is handling a case against U-North a leading agriculture company that later reveals its manufacturing of cancer causing drug. Due to Arthurs turn down against its own client, and preparing a case against them, leads to Arthurs death and case further investigated by Clayton forms the story of the movie. In the end, Clayton gets Karen Crowder, of U-North arrested and hence revenges his attack and also the death of Arthur.

The movie has a gripping thriller drama base. Its shows various shades of Michael Clayton where he is fighting his own needs of money to pay loan sharks (money lender), his failed attempt for a business with his brother, his failed marriage and fancy life style. Hes played a perfect friend. An intelligent lawyer who is as clever and sly as a fox and hunts down his enemy. Even though the movie is revolved around 3 major characters, Clayton, Arthur and Karen, the other characters are well shaped.

Michael Clayton: I'm not the guy you kill. I'm the guy you buy! Are you so fucking blind that you don't even see what I am? I sold out Arthur for 80 grand. I'm your easiest problem and you're gonna kill me? Michael Clayton: You are the senior litigating partner of one of the largest, most respected law firms in the world. You are a legend. Arthur Edens: I'm an accomplice! Michael Clayton : You're a manic-depressive! Arthur Edens: I am Shiva, the god of death.
