Hardzardous Zones

Hazardous Location
It includes those have Highly inflammable gases, liquids or dust materials . Combustible dust particles Combustible fibres floating in air

Hazardous Zones

Basis of this classification is National Electric Code and IS :5572,part-1,1970 Hazard is anything which is capable of creating an accident

Hazardous Zone 0

Inflammable gases are always present in this zone and a always possibility of electrical hazards. The selection of equipments should be such a way that there is no possibility of spark or overheating of the circuit. It is preferable to avoid the use of electrical equipments.(otherwise use intrinsically safe equipments)

Hazardous Zone1

Inflammable gases is likely to be present (not always) Hazards can occur at anytime, so all required precautions need to be taken Flame proof equipments are generally used in this zone ,in some places pressurized enclosures are also used for ensuring better safety

Hazardous Zone 2

In this zone, inflammable atmosphere may occur for short duration. Hazards are likely to occur due to continuous sparking or due the failure of protection system. Flame proof equipments should be used

Basic Functional requirements of electrical equipments in hazardous zones

The equipment should not ignite the surrounding medium. The sparks/arcs/hot spots within the equipment shall be contained within the equipment itself. External gases or liquids shall not enter within the equipment enclosures The enclosures and internal part of equipment should be strong to withstand internal explosions in the equipment. The equipment should be suitable for type of explosive medium around the installation
