Nitrogenous waste Urea, uric acid, ammonia

Definition : Excretion
Excretion is the removal of all harmful and unwanted products (especially the nitrogenous wastes ) from the body.

Substances to be got rid off

Carbon dioxide and Water formed during respiration ( oxidation of glucose) Nitrogenous metabolic waste- Urea , Uric acid , Ammonia. Excess salts like NaCl Excess water soluble vitamins Excess water Bile pigments

How are Nitrogenous wastes formed in our body

Extra amino acids , dead proteins cannot be stored in the body These are carried to the liver Liver carries out deamination Urea is formed Taken to the kidneys for excretion

Nitrogenous wastes

How are bile pigments formed

Haemoglobin from dead RBCs is broken down in the liver to form bile pigments These are added to the duodenum along with the bile juice The intestine modifies it into yellow pigments which give s colour to the stools

The excretory organs

Kidneys primary excretory organs, throw out urea in the form of urine Sweat glands incidental, concerned with thermoregulation, sweat carries traces of urea. Lungs excretes CO2 in the expired air
