Shangela and friends perform for Trevor Project


UNITY raised approximately $700 during its Second Annual Drag 4 Awareness Charity Show last Friday in Jones Auditorium. It was amazing just having all of my drag family that came down to help, said Cristina Lee LaGrand, one of the queens at the show. Shangela Laquifa Wadley, best known for her appearance the show, RuPauls Drag Race, headlined the show. LaGrand was pretty satisfied with the amount of people that came to the show. weather was, but it was a pretty good turnout. There was plenty of local talent as well, like Vivianne LaGrand, Miss CC Latina 2011, and Honey Daniels, Miss CC USA 2011. All proceeds of the show went to The Trevor Project, which LaGrand said was an organization that helped gay and lesbian youth from committing suicide. The Trevor Project is basically the LGBT suicide prevention hotline, she said. Its a big thing in our community, and Shangela is a big supporter of that organization so it was really good to bring her down and help spread the word.
