Adjectives describe nouns or pronouns. Last summer I climbed that mountain. (which) I prefer red apples. (what kind) I want six oranges. (how many) It was a cold, gray, and ominous dawn. (what kind) The dawn was bright, clear, and invigorating. (what kind) Adverb He quickly jumped the puddle. Our summerhouse is nearby. Where is our summerhouse? Answer: nearby. Her report is much better than mine. The word better is an adjective that describes the report. The word much as used in this sentence is an adverb that describes the degree of better.
