Pho Khun Ram Khamhaeng(Thai: ;Pho Khun Ramkhamhaeng; birth: around 1237-1247; death: 1298)

Third king of the Phra Ruang dynasty, ruling theSukhothai Kingdom(a forerunner of the modern kingdom of Thailand) from 12791298, during its most prosperous era. He is credited with the creation of theThai alphabetand the firm 4/30/12 establishment

Decline of Sukhothai

The Sukhothai domination was, however, short. After the death of Ramkhamhaeng, the Sukhothai cities broke away. Ramkhamhaeng was succeeded by his son Loethai. The kingdoms, firstUttaraditin the north, then soon after the Laotian kingdoms of Luang Prabang and Vientiane (Wiangchan), liberated themselves from their leader. In 1319 theMonstate to the west broke away. To the south the powerful city ofSuphanburialso broke 4/30/12 free early in the reign of Loethai.
