What You Will Need

You will be installing and activating multiple services in your home today, including Comcast Digital Voice service . For that reason, an alternate telephone (for example: a cell phone) is required to call us to activate . You will also want to have your welcome letter available when you call to activate service, as you may need to reference your account number, Comcast Digital Voice telephone number and the equipment serial numbers during activation .

What We Will Do
Remember, we have you covered! If you are transferring your current telephone number from another service provider, Comcast will transfer your number for you . It is important that you DO NOT contact your phone service provider and disconnect your service . Doing so may prevent you from keeping your current telephone number once your Digital Voice service is activated . If you are a new Comcast customer, a technician will visit your home to ensure your service is connected properly to the outside of your house . They will leave a door hanger indicating that they were there . You must wait until the technician has visited before activating your service .

Important Reminder

The Digital Voice Modem included with this kit is capable of providing both Comcast High-Speed Internet and Digital Voice services . If you currently own or lease a modem for your Comcast High-Speed Internet service, you may replace it with the Digital Voice Modem included with this kit . If you are already leasing a modem from Comcast and choose to replace it with the Digital Voice Modem, you must return your old modem to Comcast to avoid any additional equipment charges .

Set up your Digital Voice Modem near a cable outlet where you can easily connect your computer and telephone . You will not be using your home telephone wall jack outlets for this installation, so do not connect the Digital Voice Modem to your home telephone wall outlets . 1 . Insert the battery into bay area 1 on the Digital Voice Modem until it locks into place . Please refer to the manufacturers battery installation instructions for additional assistance . 2 . Connect the coax cable from your cable wall outlet to the connection on the Digital Voice Modem . 3 . Plug the Digital Voice Modem power cord into a household power outlet and into the Digital Voice Modem . (Do not connect the Digital Voice Modem to an outlet that is controlled by a light switch) . Alternate Setup Instructions: If you only have one outlet to connect multiple products (Digital Cable and Digital Voice Modem), please see the setup diagram on page 10 . Important Note: The Digital Voice Modem requires electrical power and comes with a battery for back up power. The battery must be installed for the Digital Voice Modem to function and for phone service to be available during an electrical power outage. Failure to install the battery will prevent you from using your phone service, including dialing 911 in the case of an emergency during a power outage. 6

1 . Connect the telephone cord from your telephone into the Line 1 jack on the Digital Voice Modem . If you are using a cordless phone, be sure to plug the phones power cord into a nearby electrical outlet .

Important Notes Regarding Cordless Phones

You can use any standard corded or cordless phone with this service . If you choose to use a cordless phone, note that if there is a power outage your cordless phone will not work . A corded phone will work as long as the Digital Voice Modem battery stays charged . To avoid frequency interference, place the cordless phone base a minimum of five feet away from the Digital Voice Modem .

Establish Ethernet Connection

1 . Turn on your computer . 2 . Plug one end of the Ethernet cable that came with the kit into the Ethernet port on your computer . 3 . Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack on the back of the Digital Voice Modem . If you do not have an existing Ethernet port (it looks like a wide phone jack), follow the instructions below for installing the Network Interface Card (NIC) . If you have difficulty connecting the NIC, contact the computer manufacturers support .

To Install Ethernet NIC (Optional)

A . Turn off your computer and unplug it from the electrical outlet . B . Unplug any peripheral devices (printer, monitor, keyboard, etc .) from the computer . C .Follow the installation instructions that were shipped with your Ethernet NIC . D . Refer to the section above to establish your Ethernet connection . NOTE: If you require an alternate connection, proceed to page 10 .

If you are using the same cable wall outlet as your TV, please follow these setup instructions: 1 . Insert the battery into bay area 1 on the Digital Voice Modem until it locks into place . Please refer to the manufacturers battery installation instructions for additional assistance . 2 . Connect the 3-ft . coax cable between the cable wall outlet and the single-port side of the splitter (splitter included in the kit) . 3 . Connect the 20-ft . coax cable between the open splitter port and the coax cable connection on the Digital Voice Modem . 4 . Connect the coax cable between the open splitter and the coax cable connection on your digital cable box (or TV) . 5 . Plug the Digital Voice Modem power cord into a household power outlet and into the Digital Voice Modem . (Do not connect the Digital Voice Modem to an outlet that is controlled by a light switch) . Important: Failure to install the battery will prevent phone service from functioning during an electrical power outage . NOTE: In this scenario, you will need to connect the Digital Voice Modem to your telephone and computer as described on pages 7 and 8 .

3 Activating Your Comcast Service

Prior to activating your services, ensure the following:
Make sure your Digital Voice Modem is connected and plugged in . Close all applications on your computer, and disable anti-virus, anti-spam and firewall software .

5 Are you activating a new phone number? If so, access the Internet in whatever manner you normally use . When you do youll see some simple steps that will get you started . It will only take a few minutes and well have you up and running in no time . Are you transferring your existing phone number?
